Sint-Truiden is located in the heart of Haspengouw, a region which obtained greater fame through the television series ‘Cataract’. Here you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the exquisite fruit blossoms, the cultural heritage and the delicious regional products.

You can explore the region in several ways. You can use the extensive cycling and walking network, but you can also traverse the area on a Vespa scooter or by bus. In the process, you don’t only pass the beautiful landscape, but also the many picturesque spots the province of Limburg has to offer. Numerous castles, churches, chapels, monuments and authentic pubs can be visited.

Also on the Grand Place, one of the largest market places of Belgium, you will find beautiful historic buildings, such as the abbey with its tower, the old town hall with belfry, the Chruch of Our Lady and off course our building from 1410, where you will be staying. And when thirsty, you can quench that thirst in one of the many cafes.

Sint-Truiden has a lot of opportunities to bring you relaxation, not in the least the famous cycling and walking routes. Even with Vespa scooters, motorbikes and cars you can enjoy the scenery, the charming villages and historic monuments.

You can also visit the recreational swimming pool Sint-Pieter and the open air swimming area Maupertuus for a refreshing swim. On top of that you can easily practice other recreational sports in our city, going from bowling to horse riding, golf, tennis and fishing.

Children can spend their leisure time in one of the many indoor or outdoor playgrounds Sint-Truiden and its surroundings have to offer.

Shopping

In the city centre you can shop to your heart’s content, especially in the ‘Stapelstraat’ and the ‘Luikerstraat’. At the annual ‘Ladies City Day’ in May the ladies get spoiled with lots of shopping opportunities, refreshments, gifts and encounters with attractive men, ranging from sports heroes to actors.

During the last weekend of June traditionally ‘La Braderie du Soleil’ takes place. While the children enjoy themselves at the children’s festival Joy Joy, the parents can shop in a holiday atmosphere and at attractive prices. That weekend the shops are also open on Sunday afternoon and on Monday evening during the evening market, until 22h.

On top of that, you can visit the Saturday Market at the Grand Place for all your shopping in the hustle and bustle of a morning market. If you prefer to rummage through old stuff, there is also a weekly brocanterie on the Cattle market on Saturday morning.

Culture

The cultural connoisseurs amongst you can visit the cultural centre De Bogaard and the Academy Hall for cultural activities. In addition there are numerous theatre and dance companies that offer performances and you can visit the local museums. Summer

During the summer there are a lot of activities in the city. Every Wednesday you can visit the Midweek Party, where you can enjoy a free performance, which is always closed by the local DJ Discobar Lassy. In July, the annual ‘Fiesta Tropical’ takes place, the largest multicultural festival of South Limburg. You can learn about organizations for development cooperation and integration, but also rummage around in the multicultural market and enjoy an exotic cocktail and performances.

During the Monday evenings of August, you can visit the beguinage for the terrace movies. On the beautiful historic site a free movie is projected in open air every Monday.

The Summer is traditionally ended with the carnival that heralds the new school year. At the Market Square and the Friars Minor Square you can find fairground stalls and food stalls, fun for all ages!
